As part of our summer-long Dems in DC series, we’ll be profiling various Dems interning in DC this summer.

Jane Meyer

Penn Dems Vice President, Intern at The Incite Agency

Last summer, Jane spent six weeks interning on the Hill for Senator Gillibrand. Now, she’s back for more! Jane is currently wrapping up an internship at The Incite Agency, a strategic communications firm founded by Robert Gibbs and Ben LaBolt.
Her favorite areas to visit: The Georgetown Waterfront and Dupont Circle.
Favorite DC restaurants: Aqua al 2 and Farmers Fishers Bakers
Favorite DC activities: Shopping at the Dupont farmers market and kayaking on the Potomac.

To make the most of your internship, Jane suggests taking advantage of every opportunity that presents itself both inside and outside the office. When interning, be sure to complete all tasks given to you in a timely manner and to the best of your ability. Once you’ve done that, it’s important to take extra steps to tailor the internship to your interests. Ask lots of questions and offer to help on projects using skills your supervisor may not have known you had.

When outside of the office, don’t waste time in your room! Go to as many networking receptions, happy hours, and interesting events as you can. Many of these events are free and offer great opportunities to meet people who share your interests.

At the end of the summer, Jane also believes it is important to assess your internship experience in light of your future career goals. Did you like living in DC? Did you find your job fulfilling? Were you able to learn something new about yourself or your area of interest? Use this knowledge to plan what courses you want to take and what future internships or jobs you want to hold.

If you have any questions about communications, life on the Hill, or DC in general, don’t hesitate to reach out to Jane at or
