US House passes the stimulus package
January 28, 2009 – 1:55 pm —
Today the House of Representatives passed a proposed $819 billion stimulus package 244 votes to 188, but without a single republican vote. This hyperpartisanship is due to a divide in ideology on the issue of economics. Which is more effective: tax cuts or infrastructure spending?
It is obvious from the last 8 years that tax cuts are not the answer but it is up to Obama and congressional democrats to make that case effectively. As of right now they are failing in this task and must change this trajectory if the bill is to be passed in the Senate.
Also to note, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed an $888 billion stimulus package that is nearly identical to the $819 billion stimulus package that was passed through the House of Representatives.
