The inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States, will be one of the most historic events of our generation. Join students across Penn’s campus on our trip to the Inauguration! |
All of our bus tickets have been sold. Click here to add your name to our wait list.
All PennDems accommodations for Monday night are currently filled — if you sign up for the Monday-Tuesday bus, you must find your own housing.
PennDems is excited to announce TWO buses heading to D.C. for the Inauguration. If you are interested in attending, please read this message carefully.
PennDems has chartered two 40-person buses to provide transportation to/from D.C. for $50/ticket. One bus will be multi-day (Monday 1/19-Tuesday 1/20) while the other bus will leave and return to Penn on Tuesday, January 20th.
We have free housing for 20 of the 40 people who will stay in DC overnight; these accommodations are reserved for Penn students who volunteered on the campaign. If you volunteered, you will have the opportunity to indicate your need for housing when you buy your bus ticket. The housing will go to the first 10 male and first 10 female former volunteers who need housing.
The Monday-Tuesday Bus
The Monday-Tuesday Bus will depart Penn between 7:00 and 8:00 AM Monday morning. Students will have the opportunity to participate in the National MLK Day of Service and other activities with Penn Democrats/College Democrats of America, but are also free to choose their own itinerary.
For a great listing of things to do on Monday afternoon, see any of the links at the bottom of this e-mail.
There are balls, galas, and parties Monday night, and the D.C. city council has pushed back “last call” until 4:00 or 5:00 AM (if you are 21+, of course). On Monday night, there will also be a special concert at The Verizon Center. The lineup is still TBA but it is geared towards college students.
On Tuesday morning, you can make your way to the National Mall to view the Inaugural Ceremonies, or to Pennsylvania Avenue to watch the parade. The swearing in itself is supposed to commence between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
On Tuesday evening is the Official Youth (18-35) Ball. President Obama will be in attendance. You are free to purchase tickets to that (they are not yet available but we will advise you when they are) and the PennDems buses will return to Penn after the ball, around 10:00 PM.
The Tuesday Bus
The Tuesday Bus will leave Penn between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM on Tuesday morning. We want to leave extra time in case of traffic. You will arrive in DC and be able to view the inaugural ceremonies, and then participate in the rest of Tuesday’s activities, culminating in the Youth Ball (if you decide to purchase your own ticket). The Tuesday Bus will depart D.C. for Penn at 10:00 PM.
How to buy tickets
Tickets are available for $50 on a first-come, first-serve basis at www.PennDems.org. We expect tickets to sell out. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, although former campaign volunteers will have priority.
Logistical Session
All ticket holders must attend a logistical session at a date TBA. (Probably Thursday, January 15th).
