Our friends at the Penn Environmental Group pass along the following message about the U.S. Chamber of Commerce CEO Tom Donohue’s upcoming appearance in Philadelphia and on campus on Friday.

1) Rally against U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Friday at 12pm-1pm, 1200 Market Street.
2) CEO of the Chamber, Tom Donohue is coming to Huntsman Hall, Friday at 1:30. We will prepare pointed questions ahead of time, blend in as regular attendees, and if called upon will confront him on the Chamber’s anti-climate policy (known as bird-dogging).  The more of us there are the better chances we’ll be called upon!

If you are at all interested in either event, and want more details (how we are getting there, what are questions will be), PLEASE email me at zacharyabell@gmail.com.

More information about the Chamber:
This Friday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is coming to Philadelphia. The Chamber is one of the world’s best financed and largest lobbying groups, that currently spends about $300,000 per day. They are also public enemy #1 for environmentalists and Democrats, since they’ve funneled over $34 million in an attempt to kill climate legislation (in the last three months alone!) currently in congress (the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act).

There is a rally at noon, on Friday, in front of the Loews Hotel at 1200 Market Street, where the Chamber is meeting.

In addition, Tom Donohue, the C.E.O. of the Chamber of Commerce is coming to Penn after the meeting, for a lecture and Q&A session, hosted by the Wharton Management Club (Oct. 30th 1:30pm, JMHHF85). Mr. Donohue is particularly controversial, because many believe that he is actually acting against the wishes of many of the members of the Chamber in trying to kill climate legislation (5 major members have recently dropped out or resigned from the board, including Apple and Nike).

The Daily Pennsylvanian has been contacted, and hopefully will cover both events. This will be especially dramatic if we are able to put Mr. Donohue on the spot, and if he stumbles at all, the story may make it to more widespread media (major media have been reporting on Donohue heavily).

Thanks!
