Meet-and-Greet with Gavin Newsom

Join the Penn Democrats for a rare meet-and-greet opportunity with San Francisco Mayor and California Gubernatorial Candidate Gavin Newsom.
Mayor Newsom is a dynamic, young, energetic and accomplished public servant who has championed reforms among the most progressive of any city in the United States.
He is perhaps best known for directing the City of San Francisco to issue marriage certificates to same-sex couples in 2004, and in 2008 he was a vocal opponent of Proposition 8, a ballot proposition which amended the state Constitution to prohibit gay marriage.
In addition, the Mayor signed legislation that provides universal health care to all San Franciscans. This legislation made San Francisco the only city in the country to provide universal health care, making it a model for the rest of the country.
Finally, the Mayor has promoted such effective environmental policies that the city is ahead of the requirements set by the Kyoto Protocol.
